Introduction to DEMMIN Observatory
The DEMMIN (Durable Environmental Multidisciplinary Monitoring Information Network) observatory is a Long-term test site for calibration and validation of remote sensing missions, sensors, data, and remote sensing data products and a component in the international Joint Experiment on Crop Assessment and Monitoring (JEACM - Joint Experiment for Crop Assessment and Monitoring ) as well as an agricultural site in the TERrestrial ENvironmental Observatories (TERENO), where the Helmholtz Association researches the impacts of global change on terrestrial ecosystems on a regional scale.
In this context, an extensive agrometeorological measurement network is operated by the German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD) within the German Aerospace Center (DLR) together with the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ). The tasks range from measurement to data transfer, quality assurance and publication.
The second central component is a campaign operation, which is implemented in a cooperation between the University of Applied Sciences Neubrandenburg, the Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg, the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena and the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg. There, the biophysical measured variables are collected, which are compiled in this database.
These campaign data include radiation, vegetation and soil parameters and can be the basis for final and qualification theses, also go into projects and can be requested here if necessary.
