For the analysis and evaluation of the effects of the residual emptying of the dam for the sediment composition, 7 water sections of the Helme and Kleine Helme were selected (see table below). There, sediment samples are to be taken four times per year via the transverse profile. The times are chosen according to the management regime in connection with the residual emptying of the dam.
Sampling site selection and sediment sampling are guided by the multi-ha-bitat approach (Haase et al., 2004; Meier et. al. 2006) and habitat mapping of the Helme River (Ebel 2001).
